Abro Abed

“Abro Abed” is a film released on Monday October 8 2012. The film revolves around the story of a young woman who is mentally unstable and who meets a man she gets obsessed with. The young man goes out of his way and into a lot of hustle to help the woman with her mental situation and living condition.
The film touches  the really big issues of mental illness in the Ethiopian public. There are over 400 patients that are admitted to Amanuel Hospital which is the only government hospital that specializes in the area of mental illness, every month. Studies also show that many people with the illness will not get the proper help because of lack of community awareness. It shows how people don’t yet understand the illness and how people with the illness are still looked down on.
The film was made by TD Film Production, written by Tewodros Fekadu and produced by Tesfaye Kinfe. Abro Abed has actors such as Mahelet Sumetea, Mogues Chekol and Joseph Daniel participating. The film took six months and 460,000 birr to produce.
