Addis Ababa city administration,
Ethiopia assigned 7300 condominium houses to lucky beneficiaries through random
lot.
The houses to be transferred to
owners are located in 8 0f 10 subcites: Addis Ketema, Lideta, Bole, Kirkos,
Nifassilk Lafto, Yeka, Akaki-Kality and Kolfe Keranyo.
The government has invested more
than 15.4 billion birr in the construction of housing since it first started the condominium housing program in 2005
according to State Minister for Urban Development Engineer Haile-Meskel Tefera,
7.8 billion birr of the money
invested by the government has gone to housing projects in Addis Ababa as proof
of the government’s commitment to alleviate housing problems in the capital
city said Haile-Meskel.
More than 207 thousand houses have
been built by the program with more than 140 thousand constructed in Addis
Ababa.
The transparent way that the drawing
of lots was handled is expected to lay to rest various rumors about unethical
practices in assigning condominiums in the past and the fears raised about
Lideta site according to Kuma Demeksa, Mayor of Addis Ababa city.
It is to be remembered that the city
administration of Addis Ababa has finalized preparations to construct 35,000
condominium houses in the next financial year. The houses will be constructed
at the Yeka Abido, Arab and Kilinto sites all reserved for the construction of
condominium housing. The administration expects to build more than 170,000
condominiums in the coming three years he added.
The buildings are intended to be
cost effective and in line with the master plan established for the city
explained Getachew. More than 340 local contractors are expected to take part
in the construction activities.
